Kitui Seed of Hope
Our fourth Seed of Hope Centre in Kitui was officially opened at the end of October 2006. This centre is fully funded by Vision Africa and was constructed using funds raised by two of our supporters, Chris Ross and Frank Connelly when they took part in our 2005 Zambezi River Challenge. Thanks to their support hundreds of girls are now able to particpate in the Seed of Hope program.
Kitui is a poor area in the Eastern Province of Kenya, 170km (107Miles) east of Nairobi. Kitui is home to the Kamba speaking Bantu who are also in Machakos, Makueni and Mwingi districts.
The district is semi-arid and around 98% of the land in Kitui, is subject to drought. Crop failures and food shortages are common, and around 85% of the population has no source of potable water within 8km (5 Miles) of their homes. This often times means having to walk this distance to fetch water from a local river. This is done by either using donkeys or women and small children to carry water on their back using plastic containers.
Here our Seed of Hope Centre is bringing hope to many girls in very difficult circumstances, but we need your support. Only a very small number of the girls at Kitui are currently sponsored, so if you can help please take a look at our support page by clicking this link or by following the 'Support us' link in our menu where you can download a sponsor form.
Thank you.
